Doug, is there a place to send flowers, condolences, etc... to the family?

I knew Adilet as a passionate athlete. He was one of the best riding companions around, and made long car rides lively with conversation on an incredible range of scientific topics. His exploits, professional and personal, were an inspiration to all our cycling club members, and his absence leaves the Rice community with a painful hole.

Today I'm remembering a gorgeous day we all shared at Chappell Hill, riding over rolling hills in the sun.

With great sadness,
Mark

Anon@10:23, very thoughtful of you to ask. I have not heard about those sorts of arrangements - when I do, I will post here. The funeral was going to be in Kazakhstan.

A sad and compelling reminder that life is short, and precious, and deeply uncertain. I am shaken.

This is shocking tragic news that highlights the fragility life on this dirty water ball. Although I'm an astro guy, I frequently saw Adilet at P&A colloquia ask interesting questions. My condolences.

There is going to be a memorial service at Rice in September. For condolences, etc., the appropriate recipient is his widow, though she is not back in the US yet and I don't want to post her contact information publicly.
